Daily Poll 984: Was the Discovery of the Cell or Atom More Impactful?
In terms of thinking small the cell and the atom are about as small as you can get. There are of course things smaller than cells and atoms both are discrete building blocks of reality. The discovery of both the atom and cell has deepened our understanding of reality and allowed us to make new technology. I’d say the atom’s discovery gave raise to more technology. The Manhattan project was only possible with knowledge of the atom and aside from nuclear bombs we got a whole bunch of other new technology. What do you think?
