The Achaemenid Empire also known as the Persian Empire was founded by Cyrus the Great. Cyrus is a figure revered in the old testament for his role in freeing the Jews from Babylonian captivity. The Persian empire was a tolerant nation that spanned from the edges of the Balkans to Pakistan. While it covered a massive landmass its ability to administer was unmatched for the ancient world.
