Daily Poll 1292: What Do You Think of the Umayyad Caliphate?
Islam roared onto the geopolitical scene in the 7th century. Islam claims to be the culmination and true revelation that was first given to Abraham and carried on by the Jews and then the Christians. The standard Islamic narrative stands on shaky ground but it did lead to an effective subjugation of the Arabic world, the Middle East, Northern Africa and even Spain. This happened with the Umayyad Caliphate which succeeded the Rashidun Caliphates. A caliph is a ruler that stakes their authority based on being a successor to Islam’s final prophet Muhmmad. The Umayadd’s territorial peak was short lived by the spread of Islam has been an ongoing process that persists to this day and still dominates in many of the regions they ruled. What do you think?
