Daily Poll 1269: What Do You Think of the Enlightenment?
The 18th century was a tumultuous time for humanity. One of the driving factors of this was the Enlightenment. Philosophers like Immanuel Kant, John Locke, David Hume and Renee Descartes poised questions that fundamentally changed the way we thought of metaphysics, epistemology and ethics. This laid the foundation for the American revolution and the individualistic culture that dominated for centuries. While these ideas have some merit the enlightenment was the precursor to nihilism of atheistic materialistic nihilism. I don’t view it as enlightening as I used to in that context. What about you?
