Daily Poll 1067: What Do You Think of Sola Scriptura?
Sola Scriptura is the idea that scripture is the only and best authority on the divine along with being the only judge to resolve theological issues. For Christianity the idea came about with the Protestant reformation and Martin Luther’s reverence for the Bible taking precedence over the apostolic authority of the Catholic Church. Islam touts the Quran as the literal word of God but given the Hadith being needed to be a Muslim and that many Muslims are advised to read the Quran with a scholar; it seems sola scriptura isn’t a hard truth in Islam. Most other religions I find focus on traditions fulfilled by Clergy or similar religious leaders and thus I don’t think Sola Scriptura is a meaningful concept in theology. What about you?
