Daily Poll 1056: What Do You Think of the Protestant Reformation?
The Protestant Reformation of the 16th century was the biggest schism that the Catholic Church experienced since the great schism in 1054. Martin Luther was a monk who was dissatisfied with the Catholic Church and especially the heretically practice of selling indulgences. His 95 theses circulated among Germany and the attention caused him to split from the Church. Once Luther and the Germans began their own churches many founded their own churches separate from the Catholic Church. The Protestant Reformation has been massively influential on European Christendom and by extension Christianity across the world. There are over 1 billion Protestants today across the world practicing among various denominations. While the Catholic Church isn’t an institution that I trust; I say the same and worse things about many Protestant Churches and I think the positive things that developed from Western Civilization are due to the core tenants of Christianity and a reforming of the religion out of being dogmatic and fundamentalist.
